Moral Contradictions

Friday, March 24, 2006

If you had the President's ear...

...and represent the largest Protestant denomination, thus endowing you with great responsibility to speak out on the pressing moral issues of our day, what would you focus on? Torture? Lack of Affordable Health Care? Corporate Irresponsibility? Corruption? Decreasing wages? Breaking the law? Katrina irresponsiblity? Rising gas prices? Record deficit spending?

Well you would be remiss, because you obviously missed the Most Important Moral Issue that Concerns Southern Baptists:

Illegal Immigration

**Bangs head on wall**

.... *sigh* ....

So does Dr. Richard Land of the Southern Baptist's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission speak on behalf of Christians, or conservative Republicans who happen to go to church?

  • I guess that falls right in line with black ministers who rate defining marraige as between a man and a woman as being the most important issue facing the black community. I was in a church when Tim Kaine visited during the campaign and that was what the minister said.

    Big sigh.

  • Hmmm...perhaps it's the Southern Baptists that Bush is listening to. He's certainly not listening to his own denomination. Perhaps the UMC should send a transfer of letter.

  • At the very least, this yet again proves that the Southern Baptist Convention needs to be renamed to the Southern Conservative Church, as it's now a top-down run institution that's more focused on pushing it's culturally conservative agenda instead of the Word of God.
