Moral Contradictions

D. James Kennedy - wow.

I've heard this man speak, and I just don't get his draw. He comes across as the type of grandfather that you cannot imagine ever being a kid once - he was just born that way.

But I digress. Via Crooks and Liars is a blog that notes how Kennedy's Coral Ridge Ministries changed the description of the documentary with the thesis that the Holocaust wouldn't have happened if Darwin hadn't come along.

The old and new one:

The one-hour program features Ann Coulter, author of Godless; Richard Weikart, author of From Darwin to Hitler; Lee Strobel, author of The Case for a Creator; Jonathan Wells, author of Icons of Evolution; Phillip Johnson, author of Darwin on Trial; Michael Behe, author of Darwin's Black Box; Ian Taylor, author of In the Minds of Men, and Francis Collins, Director of the Human Genome Project. This 60 minute special featuring Richard Weikart, author of From Darwin to Hitler, Lee Strobel, author of The Case for a Creator; Jonathan Wells, author of Icons of Evolution; Phillip Johnson, author of Darwin on Trial; Michael Behe, author of Darwin's Black Box, and Ian Taylor, author of In the Minds of Men will show why evolution is a bad idea that should be discarded into the dustbin of history.

Advancing your cause by cheapening the Holocaust, using shoddy research, promoting and then hiding Ann Coulter, and tricking scientists who want nothing with your program... Dr. Kennedy, you should be ashamed.

  • Hah. D. James Kennedy is incapable of such feeble liberal emotions. When you know exactly what God thinks, no need for shame or humility.

  • Hi, Nathan...

One of the problems I have is that I am not articulate enough to convey what I am trying to tell you but I think what I am saying boils down to something like a conspiracy theory. Let me start by pointing out that the worship of growth is not the worship of the Living God. This, I think you know but I fear Mr. Kennedy and others of the crypto-facist, nouveau-Reich (horrible pun intended) do not.
Reasoning, science, spiritual discernment and prayerful consideration represent attitudes that might interfere with reckless "growth". Un-tamed growth is a method through which empire builders of all sorts increase their power and their wealth. Darwin is simply the whipping boy that represents conscientious and careful thinking which currently represents a threat to un-checked growth. "Continually beat up on Darwin and any 'science' that says we can't ravage the earth and God's creatures any way we want to." "Continually marginalize and devalue any person who speaks up to say, NO! We're going the wrong way!" But the worship of growth is not only idolatrous and is not only shortening the time that God's precious creation can sustain us, the worship of growth also influences us to discard vulnerable persons and to marginalize others so that they become vulnerable. This is social Darwinism at it's worst. Read in Leviticus 20 about a nightmarish behavior practiced by those who worshipped 'Molech'. They were selectively sacrificing vulnerable persons. The worship of growth - to me - is the worship of Molech.
Mr. Kennedy seems to be a reasonably intelligent man. Maybe there really is no connection for him to see between the ruthless pursuit of growth and the worship of Molech. Maybe there really is no connection for him to see between Jesus requirement of us that we 'love, as you have been loved' and the necessity of caring for the creation and the creatures that are here, NOW. However, God's precious word indicates to me that we can have all of the 'increase' that we want by imitating the stewardship of Paul and Apollos who seeded and watered. (I Corinthians 3)
I pray that people like you and me can help people of ALL faiths see that imperialism and the worship of growth in NO WAY honors our Lord God. Marginalizing, devaluing and discarding vulnerable persons is not the message of The Christ of The Living God. Those who pursue such attitudes and behavior can be characterized as neither 'Christian' nor 'right'. May God have mercy on our souls.
